Step Up For Mental Health: Bi+ BSN Project in 2020: COVID-19 Updates

April 4, 2020 By Bi+ BSN Project | Step Up For Mental Health

COVID-19 News

We know that individuals and families are dealing with a lot of stress regarding the continuous news about Coronavirus. Many large gatherings and social events are being canceled in IL, USA and throughout the world. Many who are dealing with stress and anxiety might be a little overwhelmed about all the news about this pandemic. We at Step Up For Mental HealthⓇ are here if you need us. Our 1:1 Peer Chat Support can talk with you via phone, video chat or SMS if you need to just talk to someone one-to-one or are lonely.

Many seniors and individuals whose immune systems are compromised or are dealing with mental health-related issues and are not able to get around are especially vulnerable to anxiety, depression or loneliness. Please reach out to our helpline and one of our Helpline Peer Support Facilitators will set up a day and time to chat. Though our helpline is not a crisis center, we are always here if you need to reach out to us during our normal working times Monday through Sunday just to chat.

Our Programming: Now Until Further Notice

In Illinois, we have a ban on how many people can gather at this time called (Public Distancing) What this means is until further notice, we will not be gathering for large events.

One of the benefits of being a smaller nonprofit we have had in place many of our events online. For the first half of the year will most likely be via a virtual meeting, webinar, conference, educational training, and peer-led or on-demand groups. A great way to meet new people who are dealing with some of the same challenges, but in the safety of your own space, while following the CDC’s and our local guidelines.

Our staff and volunteers have and will continue to work remotely, so our standard and our services will not be affected in regards to our helpline and seeking out resources from us.

You are not alone and we are here to support you together. If you need more information about the COVID-19 pandemic the best information out there is the CDC.gov website or our local Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) organization. You can also check out our resource page of mental health-related important info that can help your family prepare.

More to come in the next few weeks on new classes to sign up for, virtual events and more! From all of us at Step Up For Mental HealthⓇ, we wish your family and community a safe year ahead. If you need to reach us for any reason, please contact us via our Contact Us form.

Warm Regards,
Step Up For Mental HealthⓇ Team

About Bi+ BSN Project | Step Up For Mental Health

Bi Social Network (BSN) is a bi+ project under Step Up For Mental Health, a nonprofit to educate, fight causes and change minds about mental health and its impact on families.

Our goals in the Bi+ (bisexual) space is to help individuals and communities in times of stress get access to mental health services by way of advocacy, assisting them in finding local services in their area and small grants. We are particularly focusing on bi+ seniors, homeless youth and disenfranchised groups – along with educating the Bi+ population on mental health, homelessness and poverty concerns within the Bi+ community.
